Job Description

As an Oiler in the Engine section, your primary responsibility is to assist in the operation, maintenance, and lubrication of machinery and equipment on board a vessel. You will work under the guidance of senior engineers to ensure the smooth functioning of the engine room. Here is a detailed job description for the position of Oiler in the Engine section:

 

  1. Lubrication and Maintenance:

– Carry out routine lubrication of machinery, including engines, pumps, compressors, and other equipment.

– Assist in the cleaning, inspection, and maintenance of machinery components.

– Monitor and report any abnormalities or issues related to lubrication systems.

– Support senior engineers in conducting routine inspections and preventive maintenance tasks.

 

  1. Equipment Operation and Monitoring:

– Operate and monitor machinery and equipment as directed by senior engineers.

– Follow instructions and guidelines for startup, shutdown, and normal operation of machinery.

– Monitor gauges, meters, and control panels to assess and maintain appropriate operating conditions.

– Assist in the monitoring of fluid levels, pressures, and temperatures.

 

  1. Assist in Maintenance and Repairs:

– Assist senior engineers in the maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment.

– Participate in overhauling, cleaning, and replacing components as directed.

– Follow instructions and technical manuals to carry out tasks accurately and efficiently.

– Support the team in the cleaning, lubrication, and greasing of equipment.

 

  1. Safety and Compliance:

– Adhere to safety protocols and procedures while working in the engine room.

– Comply with environmental regulations regarding the handling and disposal of waste materials.

– Report any safety hazards or incidents to senior engineers or designated personnel.

– Participate in safety drills and training to ensure preparedness for emergency situations.

– Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, lubrication schedules, and inspections.

– Work effectively as part of the engineering team, cooperating with other crew members and departments as required.

Requirements:

– Previous experience as an Oiler or in a similar role in the maritime industry is preferred.

– Basic knowledge of engine room operations and maintenance practices.

– Familiarity with lubrication techniques and basic maintenance tasks.

– Understanding of safety regulations and environmental compliance standards in the maritime industry.

– Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision.
