Job Description

As a Wiper in the Engine section, your primary responsibility is to assist in the maintenance and operation of machinery and equipment on board a vessel. You will work under the supervision of senior engineers to ensure the smooth operation and cleanliness of the engine room. Here is a detailed job description for the position of Wiper in the Engine section:

 

  1. Cleaning and Maintenance:

– Perform cleaning and housekeeping duties in the engine room, including sweeping, mopping, and removing debris.

– Clean and maintain machinery components, such as filters, pumps, valves, and engine surfaces.

– Assist in the lubrication and greasing of equipment as directed by senior engineers.

– Support the maintenance team in routine inspections and preventive maintenance tasks.

 

  1. Equipment Monitoring:

– Observe and report any abnormalities or malfunctions of machinery and equipment to senior engineers.

– Monitor gauges, meters, and control panels to assess and maintain appropriate operating conditions.

– Assist in the routine checking of fluid levels, pressures, and temperatures.

 

  1. Assistance in Operations:

– Assist senior engineers in the operation of machinery and equipment.

– Follow instructions and guidelines to ensure proper startup, shutdown, and operation of machinery.

– Participate in watchkeeping duties under the guidance of senior engineers.

– Help with the transfer of fuel, water, and other fluids as directed.

 

  1. Safety and Compliance:

– Adhere to safety protocols and procedures while working in the engine room.

– Comply with environmental regulations regarding the handling and disposal of waste materials.

– Report any safety hazards or incidents to senior engineers or designated personnel.

– Participate in safety drills and training to ensure preparedness for emergency situations.

 

  1. Documentation and Reporting:

– Maintain accurate records of cleaning activities, equipment maintenance, and inspections.

– Document work performed, including materials used, measurements taken, and procedures followed.

– Report any equipment issues, malfunctions, or potential hazards to senior engineers.

– Work effectively as part of the engineering team, cooperating with other crew members and departments as required.

– Communicate with senior engineers and other team members regarding maintenance tasks, equipment status, and operational matters.

– Follow instructions and guidance provided by senior engineers to carry out tasks efficiently and effectively.

 

Requirements:

– Previous experience as a Wiper or in a similar role in the maritime industry is preferred.

– Basic knowledge of engine room operations and maintenance practices.

– Familiarity with cleaning techniques and basic maintenance tasks.

– Understanding of safety regulations and environmental compliance standards in the maritime industry.

– Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision.

– Physical fitness and the ability to work in confined spaces and challenging environments.
